Implementing a Migraine Diet
As in any form of ailments, a good diet plays an important part in the road to recovery.
It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if someone came up with a migraine diet as part of the treatment plan. Any sufferer will welcome one, if it means reducing if not eliminating the frequency of his migraine episodes.
We are what we eat. Our disorders manifest our eating preferences and our daily diet. The kind of food we eat can either promote good health or a disorder. Even our ability to recover indicates the strength of our immune system and the ability of our cells to repair. The main concern of our migraine diet then will mostly be on what we eat.
The connection between our diet and our migraine is that we may be eating certain food that triggers the onset of migraine attacks. Knowing what these foods are can help us in combating our headache problems. As a treatment, our migraines diet will consider eliminating these foods.
Generally and as migraine sufferers, the foods that we should try to avoid are alcohol, caffeine, pickled foods, foods with high levels of MSG, salt, cheese and preserved meats. This doesn’t mean that in a migraine diet, you have to give them all up with just one sweep. Try eliminating one or two and keep watch and monitor your migraine attacks by relating which food showed improvement when stricken out from your meals.
This is what we call an elimination process type of migraine diet. Foods that are known to be triggers to our attacks are removed from our daily intakes and monitor if they will contribute to the lessening of our migraine attacks. They may be put back as some form of tests and take note of the results whether your migraine frequency will resume. Doing this will probably help you get the migraine episodes finally out of your system.
There are instances when the sudden cessation of a particular food can also cause migraine. One good example of these is caffeine including caffeine-rich food like chocolates. An abrupt removal of these foods from your diet might even aggravate your migraine headaches. The best way to implement an elimination diet is through a gradual process.
As in all treatment processes you undergo, the doctor’s professional advice will always be needed. You may have some other medical issues that can be affected if a certain food is stricken out from your system and can create more harm than good. Always keep your doctor posted regarding any migraine diet you intend to implement to ensure that the proper treatment processes will be observed.
