People who suffer from migraine should search for their own best migraine headache remedy to cure their condition. This is no easy task since occasionly it involves a try and error situation where the own body is the guinea pig. These days, millions of Americans suffer from migraine attacks.

Migraine is probably the most common type of headache that prevents a person from performing his daily duties correctly since this headache type is very disabling. Migraine is characterized by a blinding pain which starts from one side of the head and can last for a few hours or days. However, at this time there is no definite cure for it.

To better one’s condition during a migraine headache attack a first remedy would be to take over-the-counter non prescription pain killers. But there are ways to lessen the pain with a home remedy. It is not complicated to do and will entail just a bit of common sense and know-how.

One home remedy that you can do is to use ice wraps. Ice wraps can be done by wetting a towel and then squeezing it to remove some of the water. It is then folded so that it can easily be placed in the freezer. Once the towel has stiffened up, it is to be applied to the head and the eyes for relief.

Another remedy that you can do is to eat something salty. Although this will not really take away the pain as well as the wet towel approach, this treatment will buy you the time you need to do the preparation for the latter. You should eat the salty food just when your headache is starting.

A basic home migraine headache remedy is to have someone massage your head while you relax. This can be done in conjunction with the wet towel application. Approximately ten minutes of massage will do.

The most fundamental way to avoid headache is, of course, to prevent it. Since migraine attacks are often triggered by several factors, so it is best for you to take note of the factors leading to the headache event.

By identifying these factors, you will be able to avoid certain food and situations which will trigger your headache. Taking note of your migraine trigger factors should be the first and the biggest step that you have to take to keep your migraine attacks in control.

These are just some of the home remedies that can be done to ease the pain that a migraine headache brings with it. Though, the effectiveness of these treatments is really dependent on the situation and severity of the migraine headache.

However, if these treatments and home remedies do not ease the headache, you should see your doctor to discuss your migraine type and get a working drug prescribed. There are several top migraine medication products around that should even work in your case.

To most women, pregnancy is the ultimate realization of their womanhood.

It is that particular stage in their lives where a natural high can be felt yet sometimes marred by certain unavoidable discomforts. Statistics have it that one out of every five women suffers from migraine headache during pregnancy and this can be a critical concern since medication during this stage is discouraged. Obviously, this may harmfully affect the development of the child in the mother’s womb.

Causes of Migraine Headache During Pregnancy

The medical explanation for migraine headache during pregnancy is attributed to the rapid increase in an expectant mother’s hormones. Said increase in hormonal production occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy, hence frequent episodes of migraine during these periods can be expected. Other factors that may trigger a migraine headache during pregnancy are caffeine, stress, cold food and allergy including lack of sleep and similar detriments that can be observed as triggers.

How to Treat Migraine Headache During Pregnancy

As mentioned earlier, taking just any form of medication can be harmful to the development of the child in your womb. Hence, the intake of painkillers should only be done under the advice and supervision of your attending physician in order to avoid any possible complications.

A recommended remedy to overcome migraine headache during pregnancy is yoga. Considered as highly effective, yoga is a combination of exercises and meditation that provides soothing and calming effects that will alleviate migraine headaches without any need for medication.

Accordingly, there are certain conditions to observe to ensure optimal results in yoga exercises. Position yourself facing the sun exactly at dawn when commencing with the exercise. Start a session initially for 15 minutes then gradually work it out to last for 30 minutes. Test yourself if you can prolong it further even for an hour, which will entirely depend on your own comfort level.

Another recommended remedy for migraine headache during pregnancy is taking a cold shower. Cold showers have the ability to dilate constricted blood vessels, hence taking cold showers frequently when needed can effectively ease the discomforts of migraine headaches. Splashing your face with cold water can also be an effective migraine headache pain relief in case anything prevents you from taking cold showers too often.

Finally, the most effective way to avoid migraine headache during pregnancy is to stay mentally relaxed and worry-free. Avoid any forms of stress or conflict by engaging in pastimes or any kind of entertainment to keep yourself physically and mentally well.

Anyone who has experienced a migraine knows that it isn’t just a typical headache.

Migraines are different in the sense that there are additional discomforts like visual impairments, nausea and a total feeling of being under the weather. Most sufferers need a fast migraine help since they find it quite difficult to carry on with their usual chores while suffering from migraine headaches. The need to stop and rest can be so compelling that they try to find comfort by resting in a dimly lit and quiet room.

Find Migraine Help if You Can’t Find a Cure

by Hamed Saber under CC BY

.

Migraine headache and its root causes have long been the continuing subject of medical researchers. They may not have found the exact answers yet, but definitely migraine help is available for the sufferers.

Despite the lack of cure, migraine help can be found in the form of preventive medications that are intended to relax and loosen up the constricted blood vessels in the brain. This constriction causes the pain that comes along with the migraine headache.

Getting some form of help for daily maintenance allows a migraine sufferer to do his daily chores without having to worry about the triggers that can set-off another episode of migraine.

However, there are those who have reservations about taking daily medications, which means that the fast remedy for them is more on optimizing their diet. Not all migraine sufferers share the same trigger factors especially when it comes to food. You have to work this out by listing the food you need to stay away from, as soon as you have confirmed that they are causing the onset of your migraine attacks.

Aside from food, take note of different environmental conditions that trigger your migraine attacks as away of controlling the effects of your migraine. Glaring lights, strong odors and blaring noises can activate migraine attacks in most migraine sufferers.

A single most common cause of migraine is stress. However, managing your migraine attacks is already a form of stress itself thus the best way to avoid stress is to seek professional migraine help.

The best professional to provide you migraine help is your doctor since he or she is in the best position to properly diagnose your condition and provide help in managing your stress, diet and exercise needs and issues.

As you become successful in taking control of your migraine attacks, you can also join a support group that provides migraine help by sharing with others how you were able to triumph over your migraine problems.

If you are one of the many people who suffer from migraine attacks, you must already be well-versed with the migraine headache cures available today.

However, if it is your first time to experience this condition and are still looking for the most effective cures, then you have come to the right place.

Before dealing with migrain headache cures, it would be best for you to have a background on the condition and what causes it. Basically, migraine is a type of headache that is often severe in nature and starts on one side of the head. This particular headache can last from a few minutes to a few weeks.

The cause of a migraine headache is still undefined yet doctors agree that it is brought about by several trigger factors. These factors can include food intake, environment and stress.

Commonly there are two types of migraine headache cures – the natural and medicinal cures. Natural cures are very effective when taken just when the headache is starting. With natural cures, side effects are nonexistent since no drugs are administered and all natural products such as fruits and vegetables are being used to relieve the pain.

An advantage of the natural way of curing migraine is that it is very cost effective since the things to be used can easily be found in your kitchen.

Medicinal migraine headache cures involve getting medication either over-the-counter or prescription drugs from a medical practitioner. These drugs often entail cost, although they work much faster than natural remedies.

A thing to worry about administering drugs is its side effects but studies have shown that these side effects are minimal and do not cause disturbance in the effectiveness of the medicine.

Natural migraine headache cures can include the use of a cold compress over the affected area, in this case the part of your head that experiences the pulsating pain. A healthy diet is vital to avoid a migraine attack. Drinking a lot of fruit juices is recommended to detoxify your body.

Cutting down on trigger foods such as caffeine, nuts and chocolates can also help reducing the instances of migraine attacks. Massage is extremely helpful during these attacks and should be taken advantage of. The avoidance of stress and overexertion should always be kept in mind to prevent future migraine attacks.

Since natural cures are effective only when the headache is starting, the next best step to take when it is too late for natural remedies is to go for the medicinal ones. The drugs used to relieve the person from the pain usually penetrate through the blood vessels which normalizes the blood flow that gets rid of the headache.

The choice whether to use natural or medicinal migraine headache cures is really dependent on your tolerance of pain. If you can tolerate the pain and prefer to use natural remedies to eliminate future side effects, then by all means do so.

However, if you are caught in a situation wherein you need to function well such as meetings and classes, it would be best for you to take the medicinal route.

As with other types of treatments, the debate will rage on about the relationship between caffeine and migraines, but here is some information that may help some to better understand the effects caffeine can have on this disorder.

Some people swear that the only thing that helps them during a bout with migraine headaches is strong coffee. Still other people avoid caffeine altogether since they are concerned that simply consuming a cup of coffee may trigger a bad migraine headache.

The truth is that caffeine can have a beneficial effect on migraines if it is taken early on when symptoms are first noticed. The reason for this is that caffeine helps to reduce the inflammation of blood vessels in the brain that is thought to be a primary cause of migraines. With that said, if you are looking for a natural way to reduce the occurrence of migraines, a cup of strong coffee, soda or tea may be the answer.

Caffeine and migraines – what to watch out for

It may surprise you to know that caffeine is a common ingredient in many over the counter as well as prescription medications that are considered pain relievers. Caffeine is generally added in efforts to speed the effectiveness of such products as Tylenol and Excedrin. This is very beneficial for those who need to realize fast results.

With all of this information, there are also drawbacks from using caffeine on a regular basis if you suffer from migraines. If you are using caffeine to manage migraines, you may want to be aware that when it is used in to great quantities and too frequently, there are some undesirable side effects that are often associated when the body does not get its fix. Withdrawal symptoms may include headaches, nausea, fatigue, and anxiety.

This is true whether caffeine for migraines is taken in the form of medication or if you drink it in any form. It is the caffeine withdrawal that can be your worst nightmare if your body is used to being supplied regularly with it. For those already suffering from frequent migraines, this can be counter-productive. This is especially true when the body becomes more resistant to the drugs that you are using to relieve the pain.

Caffeine and migraines – is more better?

Sometimes when an individual finds a remedy that works for them, they are tempted to use it often and in large quantities. This is not a good idea since as mentioned previously over-indulgence can lead to dependence and caffeine for migraines being less effective. Caffeine is often used to maintain alertness and to prevent a person from falling asleep. This is another reason it should not be over used when trying to treat migraines. Poor sleep quality is often one of the triggers for migraines.

If you are concerned about drinking more tea or coffee than you should, or have noticed an increase in frequency of migraines, maybe it is time to cut back or cut out the use of caffeine altogether. It is often recommended that you slowly decrease consumption rather than stopping cold turkey to reduce the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms. Caffeine and migraines do mix, but you must be cautious when taking in caffeine.

A migraine headache is not something people want to endure often, though persons with chronic migraine headaches used to do just that. Now the person with a migraine has choices and medication for migraine need not just consist of a cold cloth and lavender oil or an aspirin.

Chronic migraine headaches can be debilitating and for some people – very frequent. Narcotics were an inadequate answer for a person with a migraine headache since the whole idea was to function and be pain free and any narcotic can be addictive if used in excess. This brought about a completely new line in research and new medication for migraines and new choices for those with chronic migraine headaches.

A migraine headache often shows up in adolescence and continues until around age 60 for those with chronic migraines. Most persons with migraine headaches would only have the choice of aspirin or a trip to the hospital and strong narcotics as recently as 30 years ago.

This has changed immensely though and now the thrust is toward preventing the full-blown migraine headache by avoiding triggers and using interrupting or abortive medication designed to kill the pain and stop the cycle.

Medication for migraine headaches is becoming increasingly more sophisticated and directed to the problems associated with migraine headaches.

Serotonin appears to be low in some people with chronic migraines so some abortive types of (interrupts the migraine before it grows too large) medication for migraines are Triptans, which work on the serotonin level.

This is not a narcotic nor is it an effective painkiller for other types of pain other than headache but is proving to be effective as a medication that works for migraines. Other medications used to interrupt the migraine headache are acetaminophen-isometheptene-dichloralphenazone, dihydroergotamine and ergotamine tartrate.

Sometimes a migraine will progress too far to be interrupted and in that case, palliative medications are used to help relieve the symptoms. The most obvious of course is the headache pain but nausea is another uncomfortable migraine headache symptom that is addressed by specific medication.

A prophylactic (preventative) approach to migraine headaches is taken when the migraine episodes are several times a month and interfere with the individual’s quality of life and vocation or schooling.

The migraine prevention is often a drug that has been used for another purpose but is effective in preventing chronic migraines. It is important if preventative medication is prescribed that it be taken only as directed by the physician and exactly as directed to be safe and effective.

Though options have grown immensely in what medication for headaches is available one of the most effective treatments at this time for migraine headaches is the identification and avoidance of migraine headache triggers.

With some relatively simple lifestyle changes, regular sleep patterns, moderate exercise and a proper diet many persons who experience migraines can greatly reduce the occurrence without excessive need for medication.

In more severe cases or when a migraine episode gains too much of a foothold the newer medication for migraine headaches are injectable or inhalable which increases their efficiency immensely and control the pain much more quickly.

The days when the only medication for migraine pain was aspirin and a dark room are long past and now a person who experiences migraine headaches can look forward to pain free days.
