How can anxiety possibly cause migraine headaches?

Statistics show that 85% of migraine sufferers experience certain levels of anxiety and depression. This information fully supports the premise that stress is indeed closely associated with migraine episodes.Nevertheless, the issue whether migraines attacks are activated by stress or if stress is an offshoot of my migraine remains baffling.

There are those who believe that it is migraine that causes anxiety and depression as opposed to others who opine that migraine is caused by anxiety. Both theories have a relative credence to it but the fact that migraine headaches can be painful enough to stress out the sufferer to an extent. Despite all the researches conducted, experts have not yet arrived at a definite conclusion if anxiety does cause migraine.

What makes it difficult to arrive at a conclusive finding is that the nervous pathways and receptors for both migraine and anxiety are too similar for comfort. Anxiety attacks cause a sufferer to experience migraine headaches with all the symptoms that accompany it. In very much the same way, it is a fact that a migraine sufferer will experience bouts of depression and anxiety while trying to bear the insufferable pain of the headache attack.

When it all comes down to basics, the question of whether anxiety causes migraine headaches has been proven enough as it is repeatedly stated that anxiety is one of the trigger factors to cause migraine. In fact it is quite significant that much emphasis has always been made regarding stress as causal to migraine attacks. For this matter, anxiety is an offshoot of stress and anxiety does cause migraine headaches.

How Does Anxiety Cause Migraine Headaches?

This question has been answered in a number of ways but not as simple as others may think. Anxiety attacks have been proven to trigger onsets of migraine but the matter of how or why is not specific. A lot of factors combine to render anxiety as a mitigating factor to migraine episodes but the exact participation of anxiety could not be placed. How anxiety causes migraine is yet to be explained.

Still we cannot discount the fact that most migraine sufferers experience certain levels of anxiety due to the insufferableness of the headache pains. Thus, treatments that deal with mental relaxation to relieve mental stress are recommended to reduce or alleviate stress or pain.
